Zen Meditation Weekly Schedule:

Morning Zazen: Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00 am - 7:00 am. Morning service is held on Wednesdays only from 7 am - 7:20 am. Sunset meditation is held on Monday evenings from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Purpose of Zazenkai:

To support one another in practicing zazen and in studying the Buddha's teachings.

Introduction to Zazen:

Those with no previous experience who wish to sit for the first time may call for an appointment for beginning instructions in zazen, kinhin, zendo etiquette.
In addition, Rev. Jiko's "Try Sit Meditation Series" provides ten easy to follow YouTube videos explaining basic meditation concepts, etiquette, and body positions.

Zazen Etiquette:

All participants are to arrive a few minutes early and be seated before beginning time. While at Daifukuji, participants are asked to abide by the following five precepts, which promote the harmony and well being of the Sangha community.
  • Refraining from killing and harming living beings
  • Refraining from taking that which is not given
  • Refraining from causing harm through sexual misconduct or inappropriate behavior
  • Refraining from false speech, harmful speech, gossip, and slander
  • Abstaining from drugs, tobacco and intoxicants that cause carelessness or loss of awareness
Please dress comfortably and in a way suited to visiting a spiritual place. Please do not use strong fragrances in the meditation hall. Outside food and drink, with the exception of water, are not permitted inside the temple. You may select either a chair or zafu (cushion) on which to sit.
